About Auto Tech

Auto Service Technology 1 & 2                   
Instructor:  Mr. Greg Cooper

Auto Service Technology is designed to instruct students in the safety and knowledge of the automobile.  Students receive instruction in safety, brakes, steering, suspensions, ignition systems, tune-ups, fuel systems, emission controls, transmissions and drive train, and basic automotive service.  This course will prepare students for an entry-level position in the automotive repair and service industry or a post-secondary Automotive Technology program. 

Students earn two regular weight credits for completion of Year 1 and those completing the 2-year program and achieve the minimum required score on the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Exam are awarded two E-2 credits for Year 2.

Students have the opportunity to participate in SkillsUSA, a partnership of students, teachers and industry that provides student programs, events and competitions, and promotes excellence in career and technical education programs.

National Technical Honor Society membership is available to students that maintain an overall 3.25 GPA, a 90 average in their program, are a member of their CTE student organization, and exemplify honesty, good attendance, good character, leadership, and responsibility.  NTHS honors the achievements of top CTE students, provides scholarships to encourage the pursuit of higher education, and cultivates excellence in today’s highly competitive, skilled workforce. 

Mississippi Tech Master Scholars recognition is given to students that complete a 2-year CTE program and a prescribed academic curriculum, attain an ACT composite of 18 or higher, maintain a 2.5 GPA, contribute 80 hours of community service, pass the MS CPAS test, and exemplify good attendance and discipline.  See the CTE counselor for additional information. 

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College offers a New Century Skills Scholarship (click here) to students completing this 2-year program and enrolling as a first-time college student.  $750/semester is available for an overall 3.0 GPA, and $1500/semester is available for an overall 3.5.  See additional information at mgccc.edu.
