About Precision Machining

Precision Machining 1 & 2
Instructor:  Mr. Ronald Parker

Precision Machining is an introduction to the basic machine metalworking processes.  Students are taught to become machine tool operators and all-around machinists, lay-out machinists, and tool and die makers.  Students are also trained in bench work, machine care and maintenance, machine shop procedures, blue print reading, hand tool operation, metal trades, and basic welding.  The machining coursework is written to the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) credentialing standards, and the welding coursework is written to the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification standards.

Students earn two regular weight credits for completion of Year 1 and  those completing the 2-year program and achieve the minimum required score on the National Institute for Metalworking (NIMS) Exam are awarded two E-2 credits for Year 2.

Students have the opportunity to participate in SkillsUSA, a partnership of students, teachers and industry that provides student programs, events and competitions, and promotes excellence in career and technical education programs.

National Technical Honor Society membership is available to students that maintain an overall 3.25 GPA, a 90 average in their program, are a member of their CTE student organization, and exemplify honesty, good attendance, good character, leadership, and responsibility.  NTHS honors the achievements of top CTE students, provides scholarships to encourage the pursuit of higher education, and cultivates excellence in today’s highly competitive, skilled workforce.

Mississippi Tech Master Scholars recognition is given to students that complete a 2-year CTE program and a prescribed academic curriculum, attain an ACT composite of 18 or higher, maintain a 2.5 GPA, contribute 80 hours of community service, pass the MS CPAS test, and exemplify good attendance and discipline.  See the CTE counselor for additional information.
